Oggi 29 settembre 2023 è iniziata con la prima di 25 date la residency degli U2 “U2: UV Achtung Baby” alla MSG Sphere di Las Vegas, annunciata durante la 57ª edizione del Super Bowl, il 12 febbraio scorso.

Al Super Bowl gli U2 annunciano “Achtung Baby” live nella residency di Las Vegas

Legato a doppio filo all’inizio della residency il rilascio da parte della band di Dublino del nuovo singolo, accompagnato dal video ufficiale, Atomic City.

“Atomic City” è il nuovo singolo degli U2

Ricordiamo che la residency vedrà purtroppo l’assenza di Larry Mullen, che verrà sostituito, per questa ‘breve’ avventura, da Bram van den Berg.

Larry, tuttavia, ha comunque preso parte alla realizzazione e al video di Atomic City.

A pochi giorni dall’inizio degli attesi spettacoli ci viene mostrato anche il suo interno:

Ma veniamo al racconto di questa prima emozionante serata!

Un messaggio da parte di Bono qualche ora prima dell’inizio del concerto, preannuncia che dovrà preservare la sua voce e quindi apparirà solo sul palco e non prima ad incontrare i fan:

‘These dry and dusty desert days and nights are enchanting but the enemy to singers and performers… and some in particular – ie me. 
The great Dean Martin kept his voice match-fit with a scotch and soda, or maybe it was apple juice…This singer is struggling to take a much more scientific approach to performing in the desert than usual… fusing an atom of honey with atoms of H₂O in the petri dish that is a cup of tea is where I’m at! 
And a lot of voice rest… no talking… and that one is not easy for me!
I always want to get out to see you… But that’s not possible this time around… 
But I’ll see you in there… We are so ready for liftoff!’

Il concerto inizia con Zoo Station e con la sequenza classica delle canzoni di Achtung Baby delle prime due tappe dello Zoo TV Tour nel 1992. Ciò includeva Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World per la prima volta dal 10 dicembre 1993 .

Inoltre, dopo essere stato presentato da Bono, Bram van den Berg ha reso omaggio a Larry dicendo la bellissima frase:
