Questa sera 8 dicembre gli U2 sono alla terza data dal ritorno con la seconda parte della loro residency a Las Vegas,  si tratta del ventunesimo concerto consecutivo nella Sphere.

Ventesima serata della residency degli U2 a Las Vegas

Bono a termine di Even Better Than The Real Thing introduce la Sphere dicendo: “Our heads are done in. We work here. Appearing every Friday. Welcome to the Sphere. A shape shifting kind of a deal. It can be a cave. It can turn into a club in Berlin in the ’90s. It can be no, not just an Elvis chapel, it can be an Elvis mega-church, and later it can turn into a cathedral of the natural world. Stick around!”

Bono introduce  Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses con queste parole: “The atom split, stars are scattered, energy at the heart of the matter, atom split, the stars are scattered. Energy! Heart of the matter.”

Bono finge di tornare a casa dopo una serata fuori con un palloncino per Ali, che si rifiuta di aprire la porta.

Bono spiega “The door? What does the door symbolize? Your partner’s refusal to take shit anymore?”

Parlando della scrittura di All I Want is You:
“The songs we wrote, or I write, are often not just one person. There’s the arm of one person, the leg of another, two bodies conjoined. I can put my head on a few different people. This song for instance, well, this is actually written from a bride’s point of view.”

Le presentazioni della band stasera sono a tema circense: “Vorrei ora presentarvi il grande trapezista della nostra band. Giusto. Non a causa dei suoi atti di sfida alla morte, di volo ad alta quota, in realtà, di spettacolo… no! Proprio perché non fa quel genere di cose. Ovviamente è il nostro contorsionista musicale, The Edge. Ora lascia che ti presenti un altro atto ad alta quota. Questa volta, in questi giorni, senza una lattina di cherosene e fiammiferi. Al basso…le calzature più attraenti. Il nostro, direi showman, forse, la nostra showgirl, che prende in giro Dita Von Teese, Adam Clayton! Al circo, in Irlanda almeno, andavamo a vedere il circo, a volte, e l’uomo che sarebbe diventato l’uomo più forte del mondo, finiva per vendere i gelati nell’intervallo, e alla fine diventava il fulmine umano dello spettacolo. Il nostro uomo forte, il nostro vascello di luce, il nostro sostituto di Larry Mullen Jr, il che è quasi impossibile, Bram van den Berg”.

Prima di When Love Comes To Town Bono condivide che Jerry Schilling è in casa stasera. Schilling era un manager musicale di Elvis, Beach Boys e Jerry Lee Lewis. Bono racconta che è stato Schilling a lasciarli entrare a Graceland, dicendo loro di stare lontani dalle motociclette.

Presentando Love Rescue Me: “now feels more like a prayer for the moment we are in. If you’re not the praying type, just close your eyes and think of someone or a situation that is so desperate you’ve all but given up hope. That’s the moment where your thoughts, you prayers, can almost add up to actions”

Sul finire di Where The Streets Have No Name (introdotta dai consueti versi di Moment of Surrender) Bono canta “Love, love, love, love is Bigger, Bigger”, un riferimento a Love is Bigger Than Anything in its Way.

Introducendo Beautiful Day: “Art and science combine, but you know it means fuck all unless there’s real communication, real dealing with our audience and music, music, music. I’d also like to apologize for just having done an expletive. There’s no excuse for that in Las Vegas. Sorry about that. For Irish people it’s a musical event.” Poi scherza sul fatto che non ha bevuto stasera, o meglio, non ancora.
